Gilbert sets up semi-final with O’Sullivan or Higgins

Tamworth snooker star Dave Gilbert is into the semi-finals of the Betfred Masters after a thrilling 6-5 win over world number five Kyren Wilson.

He came from 5-4 to secure victory in the best of 11 frames match, setting up a last-four meeting with either Ronnie O’Sullivan or John Higgins.

The 39-year-old world number 13 progressed after a tense match, finally emerging victorious with a cool 66 in frame 11.

Gilbert told the BBC: “I thought I was going to win in one clean visit (in the final frame) but miscued and then he missed the pink to middle – I could have stripped off and run around the table when he did that.

“Kyren is a tough competitor, he played much better than me but I kept nicking frames.

“I felt really good at the end, I would have liked to have finished off in style but I will take that. I am proud of myself for sticking in there.”
