Church looks to spread love and joy over Christmas

A Sutton Coldfield church is spreading love and joy to children across the world by taking part in Operation Christmas Child.

Ark Community Church, based in Mere Green, is collecting shoeboxes filled with gifts for children across the world.

Since 1990, more than 178 million children in 160 countries have benefited from the campaign, organised by Samaritan’s Purse UK, which is part of an international relief and development organisation.

Ark Community Church is part of the project and Community Engagement Leader Lynn Jennings said they are determined to help bring love and joy to children during difficult times.

“We  have links with Romania and Africa so we see the need to help people on a global scale as well as our own area,” Lynn said.

“We have been part of Operation Christmas Child before but we haven’t done it for a few years.”

“We just really want to bless children who are not going to get much or anything at all, especially during these Covid times.”

“Operation Christmas Child brings hope and for us it is an opportunity to spread God’s love.”

The church has been receiving shoe boxes over the past few weeks but there are various ways people can get involved.

Lynn added: “There is also an interactive one where you can choose on-line what to send to a child.”

“We also have a donation box outside the church so we can make the boxes up and send those.”

“Just knowing we could bring some joy to faces by doing this would be fantastic.”

Boxes can be filled with a selection of toys, hygiene items and school supplies. If possible, people taking part are asked to include one or two special items such as a doll, cuddly toy or deflated football with pump.

There is still a week left to put a shoebox together to take to Ark Community Church, St James Road, Sutton Coldfield.
